An Act. To totally prohibit possession, sale consumption and manufacture of liquor in and of import and export thereof in the State of Nagaland. 1. Short Title, Extent and Commencement (1) This Act may be called the “Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act.
Why NLTP Act 1989 was in force in Nagaland.
The years before NLTP Act 1989. Nagaland was free of all liquor sales and was rampantly available everywhere and with wines shop scattered free in every towns. The people where very much becoming addicted to the the items so call liquor. As the Nagas are so ignorant and did’t know the art of drinking and eating . They always cross the limits of drinking and cause a significant effect or impact to the society. Almost every man where tempted to liquor. Rise of consumption rate seen a growth in Nagaland. The families where distorted by the influence of this item. Many families had to suffer from the existence of free sale of liquor in the area.Many families where shattered and torned into pieces. Absences of peace and tranquilty within the family and in the dismay among the people. The greatest burden and the hardship faced are the only women folks in the family. Liquor has become very much a talked about topic in every nook and corner of the Naga society.That far the existence of NLTP Act was born and regulated in the year 1989 which was still inforce today in Nagaland.

But did this Act saved Nagaland ?. For instant i can say yes because atleast rampant availability was out of the sight in Nagaland. Even though it wasn’t erased total. Many illegal sales of the banned liquor still available in Nagaland in every nooks of the land. The inexorbitant price the consummer have to pay for the liquor and the consummers had to bear the brunt of the price they spend.
Taking some exampleas. If a wager who get daily income of Rs 500 and if he spends Rs 1000 either in cash or in credit on daily basis for the liquor. I don’t think it sounds good. We work so hard to survive and at the same time detoriating our health with slow poison is contradicting. The work isn’t worth for survival any more for those who engaged to liquor. It is slowly draining away our perfectly created health. The liquor consumption steadily effecting our most important organ of our body which is lung,liver and kidneys.
The most important organs like liver,lungs and kidneys are to be very seriously looked after by us if one wants to live a better life time of our existence on this earth. It would be worthless and meaningless when we become a slave to the master call ‘ liquor’. The enjoyment that gives by liquor is short term and it will just vanishes in vain. But the pain it will offer is so terrifying and often, victims of it- advices the non takers to restrain from it. It is an addictive drinks and if one begins to taste it ,it will go endless and it will become a essential food and drink. Actual food and water are just a thing for them.

WHY IS NLTP ACT DEBATED VERY MUCH?. It is very much true that ,this Act must be debated because it will hamber the generation of generations to come. Why was this Act inacted is that it wasn’t serving the Nagas before and it won’t better again in the future too.
The truth about the Liqour is that liqour has become the lucrative item for almost every people in Nagaland. Many theories are propagated for abolishing or taking down the Act. May be, since we are Christian state we must not take down the Act. No, What so ever ,good is good and bad is bad. The illegal dealers deals secretly as they gain 100 percent profit and thus fall into the category of get rich scam like bussiness. They become the successful business man of this day.
If this Act becomes null and void or lifted in Nagaland. Every one will become a seller and every one becomes a user. The abundant availability will tempt the new users for it and the price will become cheaper. The present users will start doubling their usage as it has become cheaper and new users increases that will start adding up to the category of the users. The more one will takes as it is all available freely unless the cash he own is finish. After all it isn’t a food rather a liquid that remain less in our body and flush away in piss.
It will be debated time and again , because Nagaland being a Christian dominated state and also a land of organisation and unions. It cannot be left to no one because liquor is a slow poison. Why should we allow the poison be sold or taken as a food or drink. We Nagas are very much good at the things others neglect and always wanting to take life easy and free that which we cannot manage. This is the root cause of the problem we are faced for. The more you have the more you spend, right. This is the mentality in our head. The more freely the liquor available the more it will be drunk and more will become drinkers , as it will be more likely be available all the time. The wise people never drink because he knows that the liqour is illegal substance that make our brain abnormal. It’s price is so high that he cannot effort to buy as he cannot even effort to manage his daily needs. But all this is proving wrong as when a man start the taste of the illegal substance , it never allows it to leave away from it and becomes addicted to it and becomes the slave of the liqour.
In 2022 the state of Bihar have also declared Bihar a dry state like Nagaland. Why ? a big question marks reminds me. The problem was these .Read the followings .
What led to the early ban? (in Bihar)
The state saw massive protests by women and social activists demanding ban of all type of alcohol. Nitish pointed out that alcohol addiction have often lead to family problems including domestic violence that also affect the children’s education.
“Women are suffering more than anyone else due to increasing liquor consumption,” he said.

Considering the scenario of our present state the wish that the Act remain unchanged and let us change to a holistic form.
